This continues to flourish every year and with that growth comes a growing number of young Japanese women wanting to be involved in the thriving industry. It’s a bit surprising as these porn stars cannot enjoy discreet sex work as female escorts do.

With so many women getting involved in this AV industry, how do they manage to live their lives just like ordinary people do? And what would happen to these AV stars after leaving the industry and porn ends?

They were in the spotlight, with fame, money and all that great things the porn industry has to reward the ladies. Shuplay News has revealed some surprising facts about Japan’s sex industry when they conducted an interview with Atsuhiko Nakamura. The interview highlights the lives of the women who were involved in making adult movies. Nakamura, who has written books such as “The Nameless Women,” has interviewed hundreds of Japanese AV stars.

“Many girls enter the AV industry each year, but not necessarily all for the same reasons,” said Nakamura. “Some do it entirely for the money, while others are just comfortable with the idea of having sex in front of people and see it as any easy job. It just works for them.”

Nakamura said that that the number of Japanese women wanting to work in the AV industry has increased dramatically over the years, with some 6000 women entering the business each year.

These are just some of the facts that can discourage a woman from working in the porn industry. Nakamura, who has interviewed more than 500 AV actresses, has a different perception. According to the writer, with the great number of ladies involved in the industry, they are rarely noticed while going about their lives off the camera. “There are plenty of cases of former AV girls who are now happily married and enjoying normal lives,” Nakamura added.

The Retirement Period

There are girls that work as AV actresses for just a short period of time. When they think they had earned enough to survive financially, or had decided to simply leave porn, they choose to live as ordinary people. Although some criticisms are inevitable, there are some retired AV actresses who handle and enjoy their lives just like normal people.

Nakamura said that many girls are not capable of having regular jobs after working as AV stars. That for some, getting a much lower salary is not easy to handle. This is what Nakamura calls the “AV-no” which means adult video brain. “Around two thirds of retired AV models end up in the sex industry, working in hostess bars or even working as prostitutes in ‘soap-land’ bath houses,” he said.

It is a fact that most of the women who chose to be a part of the AV industry are roped into the sex industry after porn. The “AV Mindset” that Nakamura explains has two sides:

1. Retired AV stars who don’t have the skills needed to get normal jobs
2. Retired AV stars who believe that they are more of used to sexy environments such as clubs and bars.

There are also cases when women cannot leave the porn industry simply because they are unwilling to give up the luxurious life the AV industry has given them. At the end of the day, only them can decide for themselves, where to go, what to do and how to manage the consequences of their previous choices in life. After porn ends and an AV star retires, it’s up with the person how she would want to live the remaining years of her life.
